UMK Center for New Materials – enhancing collaboration across School and Department borders

The Center for New Materials (UMK) is the leading knowledge hub in Finland for material sciences and technology. Currently there are 32 member laboratories or research groups from twelve different departments and four different schools all within Aalto University. The over 600 researchers working in these laboratories can be cross referenced by department and field of study through the Center.

UMK promotes cooperation between these laboratories and research groups in research and teaching. One of the key tasks of UMK is to coordinate research equipment resources within the campus area. Furthermore, UMK has defined for itself a special role in facilitating positive impacts of research on society.
